Common Loon - Uncommon View · **4 Likes**

This is a common loon stretching its wings. I’ve observed them doing this often but this was the first time for me to see it straight on.

Also is there a dedicated bird thread. I see birds in flight but I can’t find just birds

I love this image partly because these are exceptional birds and because this is a typical pose taken at an unusual angle . Were you in a boat?

Yes, I was kayaking. I live on a pond and each summer we usually have a pair. This year they don’t have babies, but I saw 4 doing their circling swim around each other. They didn’t mind me coming over and actually came closer to me several times. This was one time.
