What is this Creature on the Black Eyed Susan?
Lens: DFA 100mm f/2.8 macro WR Camera: KP Photo Location: Liberty, Maine ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/250s Aperture: F5.6

Shot a few images of this flower a few days ago and it had a larger version of this guy on it, well camouflaged and covered in the pistils from the flower.
Anyone know what it is?

Is that the name of a species of bug? It appears to be waiting in ambush, but there is a little green bug next to it also. It was not dead so I can't really be sure. Looks like a Pokeman creature with those antennae and front grabbing legs.

Iím not sure about the little spiky green one but here is info on the ambush bug. Iíve seen them in Maine too. Quite the predator . Nice catch

Ambush Bug

It even says: Look for Ambush Bugs in the center or perimeter of yellow flowers like Black-Eyed Susans and sunflowers

Yep, that certainly is an Ambush Bug! That site has some decent shots that they ruin with their obnoxious watermark. I understand protecting IP but all the images were donated to them so they wrecked them.

I noticed an ambush bug a few hours later on one of my garden plants. I thought that was funny. I didnít get a good picture unfortunately, it was too windy and I couldnít get focused on it

This is actually two bugs, the smaller triangle on top is the male while the female is the larger bug underneath! I have another thread with a different pair on what I think is the same actual flower. The new pair is smaller and the male is darker colored.
