Fragile Nature
Lens: Hanimex 135mm f2.8 Camera: K5IIs Photo Location: The River ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/30s Aperture: F8

The wild roses that grow along the riverbank on my property are amazing. Beautiful, colorful, yet so fragile. Every day buds open, and the flowers attract the bees and other insects. They grow vigorously for several weeks each year, adding color to the shrubs along the river.

They are also quite fragile.

But by days end all the blossoms that have opened that day have served their purpose. They wither, drop their petals and make room for tomorrow's buds.

While making these images I thought it would be nice to take a bouquet to Mrs. who was up in the house, fixing lunch. After I packed up my gear in preparation for the hike back up to the house I took out my pocketknife and cut a nice bunch to take back and show her my love.

Before I made it back to the house (about a 10 minute hike) the petals were already wilting and dropping.

By the time I got to the door there wasn't much left.

But I did bring back some nice pictures to show her.

In this last photo you can see one of the previous day's flower heads, devoid of petals.

Really nice photos - too bad the real things didn't last long enough to get to her.
