Former Chevy Dealer, Teeds Grove, Iowa

We are looking into the sun here. The colors are interesting. My 86-year old dad lived kitty corner across the street from this building as a 9-10 year old boy. A few weeks ago he traveled here from Tucson, 1,500 miles away. He wanted to tour the areas he grew up in, so we embarked on this tour.

When I was 9 Dad bought his first new car at this former Chevy dealer. He ordered his 1966 Chevy Biscayne from the factory.

We traveled 60 miles to Teeds Grove, Iowa to this building to pick it up. Can you believe Chevy had dealerships in these unincorporated villages? There was high drama when 10 miles up the road, the 1957 pink and white Ford Fairlane he was trading in, we were traveling in, started spewing oil out over the grille, entirely unexpected. We bought oil at an outpost up the road. Dad nursed the car into this now defunct dealer. It turned out it was an oil line; an inexpensive repair; dad received the Biscayne. A few years later my 2.5 year old brother hopped into the driver's seat of the Chevy Biscayne, disengaged it from park, and drove into a big old oak tree. He wasn't injured. The car was severely damaged.

Now you know why you cannot disengage a car from park without a key. You can thank my little brother, now a dentist, for advancing automotive technology.

Those buildings are fascinating; how old are they?

Most likely older than my 86-year old dad, or he would not have bought his first new car here in 1966, when he left this area in the 1940s.

Dad in front of his boyhood home kittycorner across the street from the Chevy Dealer where he bought his first new car. This was taken with the 28mm Focal lens he gifted me with a Pentax ME Super upon graduating from law school, 35-years ago. Taken with my Pentax K-5. No, he is not 25' tall, but when I was 5 I think he was 25' tall.
