Bad day for the Bald Eagle continued
Lens: DA 560 Camera: Pentax K3 Photo Location: Yellowstone
Posted By: dwalt, 08-13-2018, 02:36 PM

The Bald Eagle I was watching finally swam to shore after getting soaked. On this set he is sitting on the shore squawking at another Bald Eagle flying over. Then he flies up into a tree to relax. That's when the Osprey shows up and decides to argue over territory. Finally, he calls it a day and leaves...

Thank you for your story and nice set of images. Some times it just isn't your day - even if you're an eagle.

Bald eagle photos done as well as these are not easy . I notice the bald eagle kept it's face out of the reach of the osprey .

The Osprey is doing attack runs on the Bald Eagle. They are fighting over the tree with its prime fishing location.

I would think the Eagle would have had enough of fishing for the moment.

Thank you. The Osprey was surprisingly fast when it swooped in to challenge the Eagle.

We have a county park {along the river, of course} which has both an Eagle nest and an Osprey nest, separated by perhaps a mile. Each is occupied by a pair that has been there for several years - apparently they have worked out any differences.

Nice series, I've not seen an Bald Eagle and an osprey at the same time before. Pictures are well done.

Another great series of images! How long did you sit and watch the eagle as he dried out? It must have taken a while for him to groom and drie enough to fly easily.

Total time watching him was about 3 hours...Yellowstone is busy but only a few people stopped during that time and they usually only stayed for a few minutes.
