A few years ago, my family rode the "Berkshire Railroad" in Western Massachusetts. I took this photo at our midpoint.

More in a valley of the Berkshires. The entire western part of the state is mountains. We lived just north of Springfield in what they call the "Pioneer Valley"; if the Connecticut River weren't there, I think that part of Massachusetts would be foothills ..... I'm thinking foothills on the other side are cut off by the Hudson River.
