Seven Years Makes a Difference
Posted By: reh321, 08-14-2018, 08:14 AM

The first photo was taken in 2004. 1-year-old gray-and-white Velcro considered herself queen of the house - then 2-month-old upstart Magic was added to our family. This photo shows them working out their differences.

The second photo was taken almost exactly seven years later. Magic had just come home from the vet, but {unlike her usual} she just lay there instead of bounding out of the carrier. Velcro also lay there - almost as though she were visiting the sick. The vet hadn't been able to diagnose Magic's ailment. Six weeks later, as she died, it became evident that Magic had been fighting lymphoma all along.

Magic

At least Magic had a good home, what more could a cat ask for.

Thank you for your comment.
I wasn't always as kind to her in her last days as I should have been, but she seemed to accept that.(*) Even when she "hid", as sick cats will, she was close to us, where she could hear us even if we couldn't see her. There are tears in my eyes as I write this seven years later.

(*) One day I found her in the dining room surrounded by potting soil she had found in a bag I had left out. I'm afraid that I yelled at her before I hugged her. In retrospect, I'm guessing she knew she'd never be able to wander around outside again.
