You can find wooden churches everywhere in Russia. But the northern regions of Russia are especially famous for its wooden temples. Some of them were made without using nails. The most famous churches are located on the Kizhi island - Kizhi Pogost - Wikipedia

These are fantastic structures! The lower portion looks like fitted logs. Do you know what wood species is used for these?
