The Pentaxian Strikes Back - Action Photography Using the Mighty K-1 II and KP
Posted By: Lmcfarrin, 08-16-2018, 02:59 PM

Coming to a Theatre Near You - Action bird photography using the K-1 II and the KP!!!

These hands on tests will reveal the strenghts and weaknesses of two of Pentax's most popular cameras in regards to action bird photography. However, these tests will not subscribe to what you may be use to in a review.

Site member Lawrence McFarrin (site name LMcFarrin / Aka Lawrence -M-) will have the revered opportunity to put these cameras through their paces by using MANUAL FOCUS ONLY and reveal where the cameras excel and where they struggle. By using manual focus only all K mount lenses, especially vintage takumar lenses get an opportunity to shine as well. The birds of interest will be your everyday small backyard birds - Woodpeckers, Hummingbirds, Finches, Titmice, Nuthatches, Blue Jays, etc.). Furthermore, the photographs will be made viewable on Pentax Forums.

Lawrence will discuss his photo capture techniques and explain why capturing these fast movers requires manual focus vs. auto focus. Lawrence will also discuss why using lenses of 50MM to 135MM focal lengths produce the most unique/ interesting photographs.

And as an added treat, the K-1 and KP will be battling the Sony A6000, Sony RX10 III, and Olympus OM-D EM-5 with the display of comparison photos. This will be close range rapid fire shooting (photography); K-1 = 4.5 fps / KP = 7 fps / A6000 = 11 fps / RX10 III = 14 fps / EM-5 = 9 fps.

STAY TUNED - The results will be presented periodically over the course of the next 30 days.

(10-27-18):

** sony rx10 iii suffers technical knock out. Malfunctioned requiring repair (mainboard failed, $600 fix). Owned camera for 1 year and 2 months and sony refused to honor warranty. My assessment- consumer camera couldn't handle the rigors of professional use - buyers beware. **
