street shooting with the DA*50-135
Posted By: Douglas_of_Sweden, 09-18-2008, 06:14 PM

Recently visited Thessaloniki in northern Greece for a conference. Had some time to walk the streets with the DA*50-135-lens. Liking this lens more and more.
Used to shoot on the streets like this with the A100/2.8 and A*135/1.8, sometimes with the waist-level finder on the LX, back while I was still sometimes considering a photographic career in stead of a science career.

Some great shots there... this is a wonderful lens and terrific for candids.

I love the fifth shot of the window dummies.

Thanks for the replies and comments. Will try to find the time to post some DA10-17 from the same occasion. Also an interresting street lens becayse people don't realise they are in the picture.

Is it only me, or all shots are a little bit soft? Some even out of focus?

They look okay to me. Sometimes detail is lost during the uploading process. That seems to happen most often to attachments here and when large photos are resized in Photobucket. Resizing before uploading seems to help.

No doubt the 50-135 is a great lens for street shooting. I've left it on F2.8/ISO100 and the images are still razor sharp.

Nice series. A good slice of life look and some of those slices are really nice to look at

Well, the originals are sharp, even number 1 which is taken following the bike while its moving, except number 2 were the driver is slightly out of focus because the AF was tricked by the big side mirror and I didn't get a chance for a 2nd shot because the car moved and he begun looking at the traffic. Yet I like his expression enough to make it a keeper anyway.

As for the downsized jpegs, given the downsizing, they look as sharp I think I can expect, at least on my screens. Actually, they may look a bit less sharp on the screen I'm hooked up to right now (and older acer soon to be replaced) and sharper when looked at directly on my laptop screen (Fairly new LG). When I worked on them it was on a new widescreen LG at home, which I know is visibly better than my laptop screen. Perhaps what screen you use matter. Conversion from raw to downsized jpegs was made in lightroom.

Yes, tell me about it
Actually, #15 is a little bit below my dignity, but I could not resist and shot it from the hip (SR is great!) as you may guess from the angle. My wife had some comments when she saw it
