"Jim Crow" passenger car
Posted By: reh321, 08-18-2018, 10:01 AM

The conversation which followed my posting of the "Rosa Parks Bus"
Rosa Park's bus - PentaxForums.com
reminded me of this railroad car. It is a "Jim Crow" car - used in the US South in the days of segregation.
'Whites' rode in one section, and 'Coloreds' rode in the section at the other end.

It is good to have such things preserved so generations to come know how it was.

Thank you all for your comments. I don't know how many other cars like this survived. I saw this car at a museum in northern Kentucky; Kentucky was a border state - a state of slave-holders which was occupied by Federal troops before it had time to join the Confederacy. I'm guessing that environment - people who mostly agreed with the "Jim Crow" culture but were within easy driving distance of those who didn't {and would have been amongst those running this museum}, contributed to preserving this car.

Thank you for your comments.
I try to share the story behind a photo if I know what it is.
