Moon Experiment
Lens: WO ZS71 ED (418mm) Camera: K3II Photo Location: KAmloops ISO: 400 Shutter Speed: 1/1500s Aperture: F5.8

My experiment with the moon. Stacking 81 images to increase sharpness and detail. I wanted to try shooting a small video and stacking those, buuuuttt even at ISO 100, I forget that the moon is so stinking bright. All I could get was a washed out white semicircle. I'd need a very large big stopper ND filter to be able to do it with the pentax.
Real settings were ISO 400, f5.9, 1/1600s basically hand held as my tripod head can't handle the weight.

The experiment worked rather well. Good detail in all moon features - Tycho crater and its rays are quite clear. Well done. Thanks for the image.

Can you get more magnification? The moon is so tiny. Of course, then you need a steady mount. It leads to madness.

I have a steady HEQ mount. But no, no more mag. I don't take moon photography that seriously. I much prefer photographing Nebulas, which is what I use the telescope for 99% of the time. I do like to try the odd moon shot though.

Ooh that would be nice.
I once tried a Tamron 200-500, and foolishly never pointed it to the sky.
