Sandpiper (at least I think that's what he/she is) hunting in the wet sand. Love watching these birds chase the retreating water at the beach.

It is named for the sound of its vocalization, which sounds vaguely like: "pill-will-willET". It is a large sandpiper (family Scolopacidae). This species breeds along the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coastlines, the northern Great Plains (abundant there) and Great Basin.

Loved watching these birds on the NC beaches in the summer. Gotta get back there. Very nice portrait, with perfect color in the whole image. Thanks.

This is a great pose, and wonderful ocean backdrop.
