January Afternoon on the Farm

I don't often post in "Post Your Photos", but in a transparent attempt to get my post count up, here's my favorite of this year, from back in January. And apparently I don't know how to set the settings, this is celarly not an abstract...

Very nice photo, but where did you put all the snow?

Lovely bucolic scene - farm and hills in the distance.

Except for one item, this is a nice, quiet rural scene with detailed land features (barn, fences, trees, fields, lighting) and nice layers of clouds. The one item is the smoke, which we've had too much of in Colorado and the rest of the West. Sets off an immediate alarm in me after too many big fires nearby. But I won't let that detract from the image. Very good image. Thanks.

I don't think this was a proper fire. It was January long before the problems all started. That looked to be brush clearing to me, small and well-contained.

Quite probably so, but I have gotten sensitized to any whiff of smoke after 4 large nearby fires each taking out 300+ houses at a whack in California and Colorado. Packing cars for evacuation is nerve-wracking, especially for the one time when I was at least 60% sure that there would be no house (near the top of a brush-covered hill) left when I got back (it passed by only 1 mile away, though).

I can see that this fire is tiny, and will almost certainly do no harm. But this is just my personal reaction to things fire, and really has nothing to do with the aesthetic aspects of your very good image. I'm just babbling here.

So carry on with your fine images.

And we've gotten 2 more posts for the K-1 prize.

Here in Indiana all your western smoke is up in Jet-Stream territory, so even sunny days tend to have gray skies instead of blue {but we have had some beautiful sunsets}
