For this year's mushroom hike I decided to do a comparison. Same tripod set, different cameras. K-1 with DFA 100 macro, K-3 with Sigma 70 macro.
These are close but not extreme macro shots, so I would have expected the K-1's resolution to give it an advantage.
For the most part, that was true. This one slightly better colour.

This one creamy smooth out of focus areas, with both cameras at 2.8 the K-3 not un-expectedly couldn't compete.

This one at ƒ8, the K-1 had slightly better colour rendition.

Hard to say on this one, the orange mushroom looks better on the K-1 shot. Not necessarily sharper but definitely better. Again by a small margin.

K-1 all the way you're thinking, not so fast.
I did nail one with the K-3, Richer colour and more mushroom detail from the K-3.

I don't know how many of these I''ll do, but, the K1 wins the first one 4 to1. Anyone professionally shooting mushrooms with a plastic bear, should definitely consider a K-1. Anyone shooting as an amateur, the K-1 is for the most part a little better, but not that much. The difference is when you look really close and compare, except for the 2.8 image, it's hard to tell them apart at first glance. Anyone who says , well I like to print big... uh huh, you want a 65 inch print of BW bear. I believe that.
