Nice shot. My hummingbirds don’t allow others to come to the feeder together. One of the males always chases off the other birds.

Very nice shot..!! I am going to have to get me a hummingbird feeder..!


If I might ask.. what focal length lens did you use, and about how far away were you setup for this shot?

Ive tried numerous lenses but found I got the best results with the longer zooms (250 in this case but have seen others use up to 500. I was about 4-5 feet away (as close as I can get and still focus) while using a trap focus and I think a flash to help fill in shadows despite the natural sunlight.

They are really aggressive over here. They battle out strategic games of defense, offense and rest periods where they have to refuel and just get along. I’ve heard them body slam each other so hard it sounds like a small hand clap.
