I really like the isolation of subject which can come from shooting wide open.

Agree whole heartedly. Selective in focus regions can emphasis important details and themes, and provide excellent separtation from background distractions. Well done.

I very much like your image, but I would crop out the black area on the right and the slight black on the top edge, and that would make your image close to perfect.

Cupic, I love the bee too--seems you can never get the same image with these little guys.
