I decided to pull out my old A 50mm f1.7 and wander about the yard. I don't know why I don't get it out more often...

You should do... it's a cracking wee lens as these images prove.

Yep, I think I will make a commitment to keeping it in my bag and take it along for the ride from now on

Have the same lens and feel the same way. Really nice shot here.

Thanks. I really love the bokeh that it produces.

Also very nice! Is the A 50 mm old enough to be a manual focus only lens? I'm looking for something like that to use for catch-in focusing.

Yes it is a good picture, and as you can see, the old manual focus lenses can do the job perfectly. If you are prepared to use the manual aperture function on your camera, then you can choose also from K and M lenses. Not to forget, the screw mount Tacumars can be used with an adapter and are equally brilliant.

Thanks for the comments GeoJerry and arnold. Yes as arnold said, this lens would be a good candidate for catch-in-focus. This particular one, the A50mm f1.7 was a kit lens with my Super Program back in the early '80's. I bought a couple of zoom lenses back then and didn't give this one much use. I found out here on PF how highly regarded it and many of the other manual 50mm's are.

That is truly a wonderful photograph. I also have that lens and on occasion when I do use it and eventually review the results, I wonder why I do not use it more. Thanks so much for posting.
