This visitor showed up perhaps 10 feet from me - I heard scuffling/slithering noises while staked out to photograph any activity in an open area. Turns out the Coachwhip was in the midst of predating and consuming a skink (small lizard). You'll notice a small bulge just behind it's head, beyond the first turn in the body. Here's the end result:

I missed out on getting a sharp image of the action of the lizard trying to force it's way out of snake's mouth because a foreground object borked with the 40D + Sigma 500/4.5 lens' AF.
Western Ribbon Snake - this is a freshwater snake that was in a tree of all things? I don't know if it was bird hunting, looking for a nest, or whatever... He was a larger specimen at close to 6 feet in length. I setup the K20D + FA* 300/2.8 and used the 540 flash. I moved to within about 10-12 feet of the snake. Here's the result:
