Amazed I caught this fellow with my DFA 100 macro. He would not settle down but he was large so I could track him.

I spend a lot of time tracking the buggers hoping for a mid-air capture. Nice one!

From 6000 x 4000 that the camera records? If that's a 100% crop, that's an awesome picture (actually it's a very fine picture, even if you downsampled). The blurry background looks like panning, so it really gives the impression of a dragonfly zooming right along.

Yes I PP'ed to get the lighting and contrast correct, and cropped square to 875 x 875 and 100% jpg which is what uploaded. I was just surprised that I had a 50% keeper rate on the two shots I took as he flew across the road. Thanks for the kind words.

And yes, he was zooming along and flew out of sight 15 seconds after I took this image.

Very good tracking and picture. That is not easy...I know I've tried with such a small subject (insect) and haven't met with your level of success.

Sometimes I have trouble following those guys with my eyes - I can't imagine following one with a camera!

I thought so too! Sometimes it is better to be lucky than good.

I heard that from my dad a few times. But a Roman statesman, Lucius Annaeus Seneca, (I had to look this up) is quoted as saying. "Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity." I think this holds true with your image here. Nice job.
