Accidental feet, should I keep?
Posted By: gawan, 09-21-2008, 03:23 PM

This is part of the series I took by my lighthouse trip. I meant to shot a nice staircase because of the light and colours, but just when shooting the girl who was going up stepped back, right in my photo.

I was going to delete this one, as I took another without the feet, but I kinda like this one too, any comments?

Think of it as a happy accident. It is certainly a different, but successful perspective shot. When people ask, you tell them, 'well I saw this scene- the brown stairs rising to meet the soft pastel and window frame and I suddenly knew if someone climbed up or down, I could capture their feet."

Adds the human dimension and hides the overexposed top of the shot.

Keep it. There is the suggestion of motion, of something interesting and discovery up there.

Crop it down from the top so that the leading foot disappears out of the corner of the shot.

Wow, thanks for the many comments, I'll keep it! Have to try Gary's cropping tip. Here is the other version without the foot, and the "rest of her". This couple actually lived in the lighthouse island the whole summer. They were our guides.

The crop or other photo next to the lighthouse keepers, without the legs and feet, simply does not have the quality of light and ambiance of the first image with the feet.
