The Cygnus Wall
Lens: 910 mm Refractor Camera: K3ii Photo Location: Balcony ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: Above 6s
Posted By: Pete_XL, 09-17-2018, 12:31 PM

The red emission Nebula called Cygnus Wall is the part of the North America Nebula (NGC7000) that resembles Mexico/Central America. The region is characterized by dark nebulas and dust lanes that give the scenery a dramatic attitude.
The image was made with a standard unmodified Pentax K3ii on a TS 130/910 refractor with 0.79x reducer. The blue/ red colors were generated by separating magenta and red in postprocessing and shifting the magenta more and more to light blue. The now blue colors should represent OII emission regions while the red colors come from Hydrogen alpha emissions.
39 x 300 s exposures @ ISO 200.

Thank you pichaser and all the others here who gave friendly comments on my images.

It always feels a bit strange to share this special stuff here in the general picture forum. That is why I was a bit chary at this point in the past. But as I get a positive echo I will be continue posting astrophotos here. And maybe it also helps to let our PentaxForums astrophotograpy group grow.

Cheers Pete

This is absolutely fantastic and I am in awe! It inspires me to venture more into astrophotography, although I do not have a telescope (yet!) My own efforts with the milky way, moon and stars have generally been less than satisfactory.
