Another Bucket List Entry
Photo Location: Carcassonne - France
Posted By: Schraubstock, 09-17-2018, 08:45 PM

Carcassonne is a destination anybody should seriously consider entering in their bucke tlist.
Start off at the city of Toulouse and hop on the train for a 45min ride to Carcassonne city. From there take a short taxi ride up to the medieval citadel, La Cité, a double-walled fortifications first built in Gallo-Roman times. You can walk the remparts right around the city. Best time to enjoy the place is late in the afternoon and after sundown when most of the tourists who came by the busloads have gone. You can stay overnight inside the walled city which will allow you to come and go as you wish. I can recommend Hotel de la Cité

You will fly most likely into Toulouse which is worthy a stay, at least a couple of nights which will allow you to see the old city. Most importantly though, have a guided tour of Toulouse's Airbus factory where the planes are being build. I promise you will enjoy this, particularly if you are a passionate plane-spotter.

Nice shots. I have seen it in the distance from the train and it looked like it would be as good as the travel guides say. Your pics make me want to go back for more.

Such history there. Very nice series! I especially like the shot with the Restaurant sign.

Evocative series!

Carcassonne has a wonderful and troubled history, and it's a beautiful part of the world by all accounts. It's certainly on my list.

My first trip to France will be next June, but we we'll just be in Le Mans (for the race) and Paris. The south will have to wait until next time

Beautiful set of images, you captured the mood of the place well. Thanks for sharing. Some of these images made me think of a few streets in my hometown of Quebec city

Pictures like these are often a bit more of interest to those who have been there, I feel.

I agree.

Just kidding, Janse.

My Scottish aunt used to say, and it sounded something like this in her thick accent: “Selfprayse is nay onnah”

Many thanks for such an awesome pictorial and narrative. There are many wonderful castles to visit in France and they are worth taking the time to learn their history. Beautifully done.
