Offshore Powerboat Racing at Redcliffe
Posted By: nobbsie, 09-22-2008, 03:52 AM

Redcliffe hosted the first round of the Aussie Offshore Powerboat Series on Sunday. A mate suggested we take his jet-ski out to get a good vantage point. We were a bit late but still managed to catch some of the final boats launching, all with the M28/2.8...

Hope this guy was wearing ear plugs, nothing beats the sound that those 920hp V8s were putting out

After a quick wander we headed out the on the jet-ski, K100D with the Sigma 70-200 and the Kenko MC7 2xTC wrapped up tightly in the storage compartment. Getting a decent shot was much harder than I expected, the swell picked up enough to make focusing pretty tricky. All of these were at 400mm, f/4.5-f/5 (f/9-f/10 equivalent).

All in all I reckon they turned out pretty well, and best of all my gear stayed dry

Thanks for looking.

I am impressed. Both by the boats and the photographer.

Thanks for the comments, this was definitely the most challenging event I've tried to shoot so to get anything half-decent was pretty encouraging.

Funnily enough the only focus issue I had was me not being able to keep the centre-point on what I was trying to track, the K100D was flawless
