Monsoon season
Posted By: Arjay Bee, 02-26-2007, 04:23 AM

Living in the tropics you do get the coconuts blowing serenely over the turquoise waters but you also get scenes like this as the monsoonal wind blows into the cloud cover. The palms are frayed and the beach covered in flotsam.

DL2 + 16-45 F4.5, 1/500s at 36mm ISO200 (JPEG+0.7 exp. comp.)

And the sunsets look really good as the wild weather blows the cloud around:

DL2 + 16-45 + tripod F22, 0.4s at 16mm ISO200 (Raw)

BTW. Some photographer colleagues are cautioned to be aware of appropriate picture taking while on the beach. This evening I was cautioned to take care to be on the watch for crocodiles while on the beach.

Arjay, they are beautiful shots. The title monsoon reminds me of somewhere close to India or S E Asia

The first shot looks like a cyclone weather with strong gale and the 2nd pic is like a holiday resort up in the north.

Very inspiring images there

p.s. Salt water crocodiles were known to swim 2 km into the ocean from the shore. Amazing, aren't they?

Spooky for a shot worth your life in the second shot hehe

Thank you for your comments Roentarre.
Where I live is closer to those areas you mention than it is to Sydney. Bamaga is at the tip of Cape York Peninsula and we are in the monsoon season at the moment.

The saltys travel between the islands up here and get a lot further than 2km off the coast. A protected species, they are a very efficient species on the comeback after just about being wiped out up here.

Thanks for looking.

I lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for ten years and loved the monsoon season. Wish I had been into photography then. You have captured the feeling of this great season.

Thanks for sharing,

Than you for looking and for the comments Alvin Regken and Borno.

btw, rained again today for about the 15th day in a row and the temperature has dropped to the low 20 degrees, centigrade.... Snow would be a lovely relief.

Wow. Great photos. It shows the force of the nature.
Having a lot of friends from Europe visiting me in New Zealand and often stopping in Fiji or any of the other Islands, they are always amazed that their is so much rain and wind in the tropics. That was not the picture they got from the travel broshure. My answer is "why do you think these Islands are so green?".

Cheers

Eddie
