Winskill Stones

This photo was taken at Winskill Stones in North Yorkshire, England.

This lone tree sits on top of a small limestone pavement. I decided to take the opportunity tonight to go and photograph the Milkway before it disappears for the Winter months.

Here's the result...

Interesting combination of single spreading tree and all those stars. Thank you for posting this.

Very nice dark skies you have across the water there or did you have to do a lot of PP to dissolve any light pollution?

Such a wonderful photograph. Able to catch a tree and the Milky Way in one shot. Thanks so much for taking the photograph.

Where I live we have some of the best dark skies in Britain. The light behind the tree and just to the left of it was the only "large town" around, there was some thick sea fog rolling in from what I could make out. The nearest "city" is Manchester, around 60 miles south of the location this was taken.

Awesome composition! The foreground really brings this shot to life.

Just excellent!

That tree really improves the shot, a contrast of near and far
