Makena Beach Sunset
Lens: DA 18-55mm Camera: K-5 Photo Location: Maui ISO: 1250 Shutter Speed: 1/125s Aperture: F16

This photo was taken a few years ago from the Makena Beach Resort on Maui. I don't believe the place is still in operation. The tiny island is Molokini Crater.

This is a very attractive scene - with various colors and various textures.

Thanks GeoJerry! I am heading to the north shore of Oahu in December so I hope to get some good photos while I am there. Hopefully the big waves are coming in and I can get some surfing action.

Beautifully done. Interesting that with a shot like this one, someone will eventually poo poo kit lenses. I still do not understand why because if a person knows what he/she is doing, results like this photograph is a certainty. Many thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks Tony. Your comment about kit lenses is appropriate. I used mine for years without giving it any thought.

The sharpness of the dark artifacts on the left is awesome! The colors are amazing, too. A good photograph, all the way around. Bravo, Todd. You did good.

Proof that it's the photographer who makes the image, not the camera ... The DA 18-55 mm was maligned yet you took an awesomely beautiful image ... Hats off !

Love the colors in this one. Makes me want to just lay out on the sand and just listen to the waves.

Very nice and with the 18-55mm no less. Funny how we go about acquiring all this gear and I can honestly say my favourite shot I ever took was also done with the 18-55mm kit lens...

Thanks Dewman! This is still one of my favorite photos, and a great memory of a beautiful place every time I look at it.

Thanks vector! Back then I never even thought much about replacing this lens. Kit lenses can still produce great images.

It's fine shots like this that make me wish... that the Star Trek transporters were a reality.
