First go at night with the KP
Lens: 28-75 Camera: KP Photo Location: Painted Mines
Posted By: skinja, 10-20-2018, 10:37 PM

First night out with the KP, I took a drive up to the Painted Mines, East of Colorado Springs. You would think I would have checked my Battery level before driving an hour and then walking 20 minutes. I took about 20 shots before the battery said enough. Dammit. I really enjoy the potential of this camera. I hate the battery life.

I like that shot with the Big Dipper. I can sympathize, I've done the same battery trick myself!

Have you ever heard of dumb luck. As far as technique, guess and by golly. Exif data explains my set up, but every night sky will be different, how much light pollution, what phase is the moon in? Where is it at in relationship to your subject?

I was in a pretty dark area with minimal light pollution, 3/4 moon about 4 hours after rise and about 1-1/2 hours past sunset. Light was incredible for what I was looking for. To damn bad I didn’t have a full charge on the only battery I own. I only scratched the surface on this place.

Fairly new to night shooting, so this is a single exposure. Looking forward into diving deeper in multi exposures and brackets.
