A shining smile
Lens: Modified 60-250 F4 Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Trois-Rivières

I'm not happy with myself for including the yellow post on the left (not comfortable cropping tighter, it changes the composition too much), but I'm certainly happy with capturing that shining smile!

Depends on the purpose you want for this picture. If you want an impromptu portrait, then cropping both sides to a 3:4 ratio would be good. If you want to record a moment in time, then the yellow post is another element of interest that provides some context. Either way, it is very appealing.

A square crop would work here, methinks.

Very well done capture of youth with a smile. Who could ask for anything more?

Yeah, all you had to do was to take a step to your left and rotate the camera to follow the subject.

I too am annoyed when I look on the laptop later on and realize I could've got it right on the day instead of compromising in post.

But I can see why it was no throwaway ... what you achieved in the rest of your picture and its mood is so good.

I tried cropping vertically, or tighter, and the picture lost context. Thanks for your analysis.

That's a good idea, one that I don't use often enough.

So true! I was tracking the smile, not paying enough attention to surroundings.

Catching that moment requires luck and timing

Wonderful smile indeed ;-)
I think you could cut away the yellow post with no problem at all !
