Monster Hawk
Posted By: Fl_Gulfer, 09-24-2008, 12:24 PM

This guy was standing on the side of the road when we were coming back from photography class today. I can't even explain how big this guy was. a small child could have rode him... I'd say his wing span was over 10 feet

wow, fantastic shots. 55-300 seems to be a fine lens. Last three shots are quite sharp, are all of them at 300 mm?

A little small for the size. But the fact you captured the suureal creature with the zoom is a feast itself.

posted an answere on dp review. according to the Audobon bird book it is an immature bald eagle. Also too far east and south for a golden.

the Bald Eagle doesn't get the yellow beak/eyes and white head until about 4 yrs. It seems juvies are even bigger than adults sometimes (baby fat?) females are also bigger than the males.
Just some stuff I learned from the local birdwatchers

Thanks guys I thought he was tooo big for a Hawk, and he let me get real close, about 20 feet away so he must be a young one, I took all the shots between 200mm and 300mm.
Thanks Jack
