U.S.S. Cairo
Posted By: reh321, 11-04-2018, 01:26 PM

These are the remains of the ironclad gunboat Cairo, which was sunk by a Confederate mine in December 1862. In 1965 the remains were raised, restored, and eventually moved to the Military Park at Vicksburg MS. Today she is surrounded by brickwork and covered by a large gray tent.

Thank you for your comment.

Incidentally, since the remains are 'under cover', I had to stand around until one of the few clouds covered the sun; otherwise, the environment exposed to the sun would have required serious "toning down".
