Originally posted by RobA_Oz Poppies are one of the best floral subjects for the camera, especially on this day, I find. The reds are nice – a Nikon-using friend always says he envies the reds I get out of my Pentaxes. Nice also to find someone else who still calls it “Armistice Day”, rather than the too-generic (in my view) “Remembrance Day”.
Thanks Rob! The reds I get are sometimes a little too saturated, but fine in this case. The colour balance in a couple of the photos today was odd; a bit like Kodachrome with some strange hints of blue.
On the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, it was particularly appropriate to use that name. While Remembrance Day may feel generic, we need to be remembering those who fought in later conflicts after "the war to end all wars". But this year, it's certainly appropriate to be thinking of the horrible carnage in places like Gallipoli and the Somme.
