was 500mm, f8, 1/125th shutter. 200 ISO
This was my most recent moon shot. ISO 200, 1/640s, f/4 with a 400mm lens:
Yours is in the ballpark for the loony 11 rule and is within the usual range of what can be expected for shooting the moon as is mine but even mine is over exposed a bit. A stop or 2 of extra exposure isn't all that uncommon with the moon depending how much moisture, haze, pollution, smoke is in the atmosphere. The original image however has 3 extra stops beyond that so 5 beyond the starting point of the loony 11 rule. It may have been that there was a lot of smoke and/or haze in the air and that was the cause for needing the extra exposure. That would also explain the softness in the image.
