Pretty But Deadly Little Berries
Lens: Pentax DA 35mm Limited Macro Camera: K-3 II Photo Location: Granite Bay, CA ISO: 100 Shutter Speed: 1/50s Aperture: F2.8

These are Nandina berries. Apparently they contain cyanide. I read that Cedar Waxwings are sometimes victims.

Nice detail! Nandina can be found nearly everywhere here in N. Texas. (I haven't noticed any dead birds, though - - yet!)

Thanks Paul. I have had these plants going on 20 years now and have never seen a dead bird or one that was attracted to the berries. The birds must know they are bad.

Thanks Tbone51! Yes, I did use a tripod, which is difficult sometimes with the 35mm macro because you have to be so close to the subject.
