Only some sand, water and sky
Camera: K-1 Photo Location: Terschelling, the Netherlands ISO: 100 Aperture: F9
Posted By: Fries, 12-19-2018, 04:06 PM

And some dunes! This is the western point of the island of Terschelling in the Dutch part of the Waddensea. This landscape and patterns on the ground are created by the wind and the sea. Hope you approve of my efforts to capture some of it. I had not planned to publish them together. So they have all been post processed as individual photo's. Pretty much concentrated on one spot that interested me. Lenses used were the Samyang 24mm and the Irix 15mm Blackstone.

Cheers,

Remco

They are all very nice but Number 2 caught my eye the most. Have you ever thought about using filters to stop down about 10 stops or so and then allowing the shutter to remain open to really accentuate the movement of the clouds? Everything would still be focus and you could play with the colors a bit if you wanted to but you would really capture the movement of those clouds.

I agree - I always like reflections, and the difference in colors and textures is striking.

Thanks! Frankly I did use a 10 stop filter for that photo (and the one above). Because it was an unusual bright winter day with not that much wind I couldn't achieve a slow enough shutter speed to get a lot of movement in the clouds. Don't get me wrong. You gave me solid advice and I appreciate that. Only, in this instance I was a bit ahead of you.

Dan, thanks! The first and the fifth were the ones that worked the best on social media.

Thank you! Like you I am a sucker for a good reflection. One reason I love to shoot near water.

Thanks Norbert! I wish you a warm, cosy and 'fröhliche Weihnachten' my friend. One day I'll take my camera to the German and Danish Waddensea because I'd like to scout that part of my favorite playing ground.

Very nice series of photos! I really love the close-up textures of the sand against the vastness of the sky and dunes.

Thanks Todd! With so much open space I am alway's inclined to stay close to the ground to balance out the composition which has the added benefit of capturing those textures.

Glad to be of service! You know there are roads leading out of your town?

Thanks! Somehow the island do have an effect on the cloud formations. One of the island even has the reputation of receiving more bad weather than all the other four Waddenisland; especially tornado's...

Very nice series, Remco. I've always been fascinated with the abrupt interface between land and sea: two very different worlds just a few steps apart.

I like ALL of these pictures. Beautiful, simple components. All distinctly different. An excellent series. OK, I'll pick #4 as my favorite, with the dune grass and strong shadows in the sand. Thanks.

The Terschelling location reminds me of my time, when I was a boy, bicycling on Texel down to the south.
