A New Year's Andromeda
Posted By: Colorado CJ, 01-02-2019, 04:28 PM

Took this last night at 3 degrees, kinda cold and hazy, but it turned out well. This is my first Andromeda using my new guide setup. Quite a bit better than my last attempt.

This is 38 images at 300 seconds each and 400 ISO for a total of 3.2 hours.

Shot using:

Stellarvue SV80 Access
EQ6-R Pro Mount
Nikon D600 (unmodified)
ZWO ASI120MC-S Guide Camera
Astromania 60mm Guide Scope

Beautiful and great job. I never knew that refractors can deliver such high quality images.

Thanks everyone! This is my best to-date. A lot has to do with the new guide setup. Since I can now guide my mount to sub-pixel accuracy, there is no muddling of the image from bad tracking.

I am having a huge amount of fun with astrophotography, it is a whole new way to use my cameras. Pretty addicting.

Refractors are some of the best for astrophotography. Especially wide-field. The only reason people avoid them for deeper space photography is because they get very big and heavy and real expensive, fast, but a high quality refractor will beat out any reflector. Of course, this is my opinion, but it is based upon reams of research.
