Cedar trees

This poor tree in the woods is getting torn up by one of our local wood peckers

Once the insects get in, the woodpeckers aren't far behind.

It's quite interesting, if you peer into one of those holes, you can see a bug tunnel running perpendicular to it through the wood. Must be a tough bug to survive eating cedar!

That's what I was thinking. They are full of poisonous resins.

Last hole might be large enough to shelter a mammal - like a squirrel - how thoughtful of the bird.
