Bird on Branch
Lens: Pentax M 80-200 Camera: K-S2 Photo Location: Venezuela ISO: 200 Shutter Speed: 1/200s Aperture: F11
Posted By: Joule1991, 01-16-2019, 10:35 PM

Birds on Branch, BOB, a not so loved relative of Birds in Flight, BIF.

I find that this lens is a good perfomer, even wide open (though here it was stopped down for more DOF), makes me wonder if should get that Sigma 70-210 UC...
The picture was underexposed, but a light edit in darktable fixed it.

Btw, my identification skills aren't up there yet, so if anyone can help me identify this little fella I would be very thankful

Personally, I think the best you can do for a relatively inexpensive lens would be something like a Sigma 70-300 second hand, or a DA 55-300 PLM new, 210 is too short for birds. So is 300 but it's better than 210.

My knowledge of Venezuelan birds isn't up there at all, so, I can't help with the bird, sorry.

There are lots of great bird images in this thread if you are interested. It's one of the most popular threads on the forum.

Thanks for the suggestion! I know I should try to get close to at least 300mm, but my budget is small and there aren't that many offers for Pentax lenses here, guess I'll give ebay a serious look.

I have owned three lenses - Sigma 70-300, Pentax-DA 55-300 WR, and latest Pentax-DA 55-300 PLM - that would be good for you. The PLM lens is the best, but I'm guessing that the other two are available for less {especially used}.

I've seen Sigma 70-300s for as low as $80.
