I drove along the road and I photographed these wonderful animals

They go where they want. Cars carefully go around it.

Forty-some years ago I parked my car in a seemingly abandoned area and went off to take some photos; when I got back, my car was surrounded by a curious mob of these guys, so I sat under a nearby tree until they lost interest. You did a good job of capturing the sense of having these large critters aimlessly wandering around.

Some great shots, I particularly like the first one...that mama is looking you straight on...eye to eye...hope you didn't blink.

Not sure where you took the photos...looks like parts of Wyoming, Montana...Alberta ?

Well the hills look like parts of Alberta, but the plant life look more southerly. I've never been to Utah, so I'm not sure about that.Possibly somewhere in the USA between Alberta and Utah ?

Just an ill informed guess on my part.

I've lived in Western Canada all my life, both Manitoba and Alberta.

This area, also looks like bits of North Dakota..outside of the Mandan/Bismarck area...and parts of southern Alberta.

Looks like Russia. No surprise as Russia also has plains, prairies, rolling hills.

Well, yes Russia. Eastern Siberia. What is not Old West? Places such that westerns can be filmed. Here (Eastern Siberia) in the 19th century, as in the Old West, there was also a gold rush and mores were like in westerns and as you can see nature is very similar...Immediately remembered Johnny Cash...
The Indians in the photo below ... but no, it is the Yakuts (Siberian aborigines) in national costumes.

The more I thought about it, the more I thought Russia is a possibility. Northern hemisphere...similar topography, geography, some climate similarity. I have an interest in geography and history.

As far as some of the people of Siberia...here is an article you may find of interesting.
