Forgive my lame question, did you use the 540 flash as on-camera or off camera? what was the speed you set it at?
Would love to try with my kids this summer.
I was thinking of using a soft and gold reflector.
So, the 540 is just sitting on the hotshoe, Suraswami, you should absolutely be able to recreate these shots.
1/1000s (so HSS is being used), shot wide open (f2.4) that leads to an ISO of 320.
A reflector facing the subject will result in squinting. You will need someone to hold it at the right 'feathered' angle, and follow a strategy of the subject having their eyes shut through much of the session and only opening on your signal just before hitting the shutter button.
This will probably interfere with your workflow. With flash, you can just keep taking pictures, it's more relaxing and you can see you get less artificial expressions on the face.
