Guess what the mailman brought me today!
Posted By: Photochop, 02-27-2007, 07:57 PM

An SMC M50 1:2! Yes, LBA has finally attacked

I haven't had the opportunity to take it out of the house yet so I decided to do a little experiment with my home made soft box which is still not finished, a dried out rose and my sony close up lens. Since the close up lens has a bigger thread than the M50, I just hand held it over top the M50 and moved back and forth until I got focus. Now all I have to get is a step up ring and the possibilities are endless

Congratulations on your new acquisition photochop. If you are anything like me, you will fall in love with this lens. Plenty sharp even wide open. Mine is the K 50 1.2 but I think they are essentially the same. Here is a sample of what you can look forward to:

Nice pic. Omg Haha. I was expecting photos of the lens.

It offeres relief for other LBAers', their anxieties still boxed in FedEx packaging sitting beside Tom Hanks. (who's stuck on an island...somewhere in the Pacific..far far..away )

Thanks NaCi, that's a super shot you've got there.

LOL FotoPete. I suppose I should post a pic of the lens itself, so here it is just for you

Here's another version of the Rose with the lens stopped down to f8 if I remember correctly. fyi...The red spots are sparkles, not hot pixels.

And just in case you were wondering what the softbox looks like, here it is still unfinished. I got the idea from the Strobist's blog. All I need now are a few more desk lights.

Very nice lens and photo. A very interesting studio set up there!

I really like the soft smooth bokeh in your rose shot

Photochop, that was a nice shot of the rose.

What material are you using to let the light pass through into your soft box?

Thanks Roentarre!

Alvin, I don't recall the name of the material but I bought it at Curry's Art Supplies. It's semi transparent, on one side it's a frosty matte and on the other side it's glossy. I'll be getting some more of this stuff to finish off the box and I'll check for the name.

Haha. Gotta love that 50mm. Thanks for the new photos. Looks great!

Haha and I thought Toronto was all but consumed by Canikoners. I guess it kinda explains why everytime I pop into the Henry's Outlet downtown, the Kmount bins are always empty. lol.

Pete and Photochop - Henry's downtown never had what I was looking for, so I always call before going over. Found my 50 in Oakville

Really? Well I rarely go to the main store. They rip you off and the sales people are biased to people with big camera bags, mid to pro grade canikon stuff.

Its the outlet store thats got the bins and bins of bargain stuff. The staff are way more helpful and friendly at the outlet store.

You'll see it before you get to the main store walking east on Queen St. from the Eaton's Centre.

I tried looking at what they had there a few months ago. They had a bin full of lenses, mostly Vivitars but none of them had caps on them and they were layered with dust...ugh. And it's not like they were super cheap or anything, somewhere between $60-$170! That kinda turned me off from buying from them. I should've checked what they had behind the counter but I was afraid to find out how much more expensive those ones were.

Have any of you had any luck with the pawn shops next door to Henry's?
