Blue Man Group HTBAM tour - Montreal show
Posted By: ve2vfd, 10-01-2008, 09:04 AM

Here are a few shots from the Montreal stop of their tour...

All shots taken with a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 at ISO1600

Like most rock concerts, stage lighting was a nightmare to work with... I found that sitting in the front row made taking pictures harder as I was "inside" the stage lighting. I found it easier to shoot the last BMG show I went to in the 5th row.

The show opened with David Garibardi (he paints to rock music)

And then moved on to the Blue Man Group

In the splash zone Pat ! Saw then in Vegas Row 5 I think (one back of the splash zone anyway) - great shot given the conditions. It's a show that is impossible to explain but well worth seeing.

Did you keep the gear under the poncho at the appropriate times ?

Wow these are really great! I do a lot of shooting of theatrical productions (well not a LOT but enough to make it a significant portion of my shooting I guess) and it's HARD. The wonky lighting messes everything up. There is no white balance preset for multicolored stage lights. Great job. And it looks like a fun show.

Mel ... Thanks, indeed shooting a live concert is quite the adventure... what makes the Blue Men hard to shoot is that their makeup is highly reflective... not easy to shoot without blowing out.

Dave ... He he he, Yup, I was front row right by the paint drums, I don't wear the raincoat though, I'm one of those insane fans that wants paint on them...

Michael ... It is quite exciting, a Blue Man Group show is someting else...

You caught the whole series.

Really envious of your work being so close and capturing these perculiar moments.
