Formula 1 Test Days 2019
Lens: Sigma 100-300mm Camera: Pentax K3 Silver Photo Location: Circuit de Catalunya
Posted By: red5isalive, 02-23-2019, 01:16 PM

Dear members,

This year I have been able (finally!) to get a photographer media tabbard for the Formula 1 2019 Winter Tests this past week and so would love to share some of my images with all you,

The light was so nice

Again, that light....

Ups!

Staring at you!

Exiting the pits

I hope you like them

It is been lots of fun !!!! Yet 4 days working very hard and only being able to get to the pitlane for 1 hour a day unfortunatelly due to our type of photo-pass.
Yet also I have found very dissapointing is that Canon and Nikon bring lenses and a sensor cleaning service, but Pentax does not bring anything so you can't borrow any lenses and you have to use your own private gear.

The gear I have used here has been the following one:

Pentax K3 Silver
Pentax K5

Sigma 17-50mm f2.8
Pentax DA 50-135mm f2.8
Sigma 100-300mm F4

Pentax F 1.7x

Unfortunatelly i forgot my Pentax F* 200mm f2.8 at home every day.

I have found a big shame not being able to try and work with bigger lenses borrowed from the brand itself, but things go as they go I guess.

Hope you like them!

Great results with your "slow" k-3 and k-5 (tongue in cheek). Looks great.

Wonderful job and you're making use of your opportunity very well. Like all the pix, but particularly the individual shots of the drivers...the one wearing the helmet with the Alpha Romeo emblem and the pensive driver with the exact brand on his ball cap and in that photo...great shadowing and black background. Some excellent pics overall...of cars in movement and you have a talent for capturing portraits of interest of drivers. Well done and please keep posting.

Yes I agree, your 200mm F 2.8 would be a definite asset and although you don't have access to 'factory' lenses like the Canikon crowd, you seem to be doing more than alright with your personal Pentax equipment.

Yeah they can be slow sometimes and loose focus but they also can produce great results

Indeed, that 200mm should have been in my backpack since day one. But to be honest I came on Monday from Oslo after Rally Sweden and sleeping a few and I just grabbed my backpack and runned to the track. So i totally forgot about the 200mm unfortunatelly.

Those Alfa Romeo guys are Giovanazzi with the helmet on and 2007 F1 Champ Kimi Raikkonen former Ferrari Driver and now in Alfa Romeo.
I do love also that image because it was very hard to be taken. It was getting dark and between us there was a lot of heads, but I've found a spot and the lights from a tv camera where giving me the chance to have him perfectly lighted

It take me a few tries but managed to create something nice

These are very well done.
Photographing race cars at speed is not easy.

Indeed needs practice but to be honest i have been working at that racetrack a couple of times before so i knew some good spots to be at. And then you also just needed to follow the light. Let's say i was "playing at home".

Yet is true at first is not easy, takes practice.

Great images Daniel. How about some of the Rally shots as well? Airborne launches and dirt rooster tails are always welcome.
