As I glanced out the window from our den, I noticed "dried mealworms" has attracted another bird {besides the Cardinals} to our deck. In this case, he does have the beak of an insect-eater, but no "Hello, My Name is" tag.

Nice captures! Nuthatches are opportunistic feeders. They eat seed out of my bird feeders.

Thank you for your identification. After your post, I realized I should have known this bird, because last month I had seen it walking up-and-down the tree the squirrel feeder hangs from; I guess that "top view" of the bird showed much less white, thereby confusing me.

A couple of days later, this guy showed up. I had to look twice - actually I had to compare photos - before I was certain that he is a completely different breed {body shape and beak are different}; I guess I'm just easily confused by birds.

Being new to birding I agree that getting the the names right is a challenge . Photos are quite helpful .
