Very interesting photo! When I looked at it first without reading your text, I though that was some kind of a strange canyon image! I like the feeling of depth it has!
The wound being inflicted by the ants is about the size of a dinner plate and located at the base of the tree. The image is a simple example of "crop to macro" where all normal scale references were removed.
For me, the K100D is best suited for "zoom to macro". On the other hand, pairing the DA 35 Limited along with the DA 55-300 and a few other great lenses, show the lowly K100D can hold its own in an honest way as a great image capturing tool.
