Northern Flicker Sunning, KP and DA300
Lens: DA300 Camera: KP Photo Location: Portland, OR ISO: 3200 Shutter Speed: 1/800s Aperture: F5.6

The birds and light have been cooperating for my new KP. I'm really impressed with this camera, especially for how well it does with high ISO, as well as the tilt screen and its small stature. I like the way it pairs with the DA300, not unbalanced at all. Even with the 560, it works well. Kind of like carrying around a lens and, oh by the way, there's a camera attached!

Geezzzz, what a beautiful capture. We have so many of these birds here in beautiful, downtown Beaverton, Oregon. Along with Juncos, nut hatchers, chick-a-dees, robins, etc.. Thnks for sharing.

Thanks, TT! This is a great time of year for all of these, especially with this great clear, cold weather we’re having.

This is a terrific photo, well done! They hang around behind my house in late fall, but I failed to get a photo as close as you did. They tend to feed on the ground and then fly up higher onto the trunks of the oaks which doesn't offer many good opportunities.

Nice shot of a beautiful bird. Flickers are woodpeckers but they feed on ants on the ground. Flickers love the peanut flavored suet blocks. I've got one that's so used to me that I can photograph it with a 100mm macro lens.

Thanks, ToddK and Gifthorse. One of the best things about flickers is that they don’t scare easily, like the smaller birds do. So I can get pretty close, though this one was maybe 20 feet away.

You and your KP did an excellent job of catching this bird.
These days, using TAv mode I set shutter speed and aperture I think are appropriate, knowing that KP will do well regardless of what ISO setting is called for.

Thank you, reh321. When I don’t have the luxury of shooting manual for still subjects, I’m quite a fan of TAv mode. When you know you need a certain minimum shutter speed and just the right aperture, why put them at risk?

Thank you, CeeCee. You’ll love the 300. It’s my most recent lens acquisition and find myself wishing I hadn’t waited so long.

When I limited myself to ISO 800 or lower on my K-30, I usually had to compromise - but with the KP I've been willing to go up to ISO 12800 - which effectively means no limit during daylight.
