Colors of the Sky

Thumblinks to bigger pics

Yeah, I know I still need a lot of work :ugh: Is it possible to make all the "black" areas completely black without post processing? The roof tiles are still distinguishable in both pics. Should I set exposure compensation lower? I think I had these set to -1EV.

Thanks for the help, guys!

you could try shooting so that all the black areas go true black (RGB values of 0,0,0), then try and bring everything else back in post process. I dunno, just a thought. Colors usually look more vivid when you underexpose as well.

Level adjustment

u can use level.

1st, open levels dialog box at the Edit > Adjustments > Levels.
then, select the black point eyedropper, click on the lightest tone of one of the roof tile.
now, your sky will become darker, u need to drag the midtone point to the left until u satisfy with the brightness.

attached is my adjustment result, hope this could help.

Heading to work the other day and caught the sunrise behind me. Cropped out the excess stuff in the shade.

I'm thinking it might be as simple as playing with the settings and using one that works best. If the clouds stick around tonight and I have time, I'll try reducing the exposure comp by another third or two thirds.

clawhammer and take - Sorry, I have no idea what you guys are talking about Forgive my noobieness

How would I go about shooting to achieve RGB values of 0? Keep the cap on?

And what's that program with the level function? Photoshop?

Thanks for all the input guys! : I appreciate all the help.

keeping the cap on definately would keep it black What I meant was make your exposure dark enough so the dark areas are completely black, then bring everything else back to proper exposure in post processing.

As for levels, any decent photo editing software will have a levels tool.
