High Key in the studio
Posted By: Warped, 10-03-2008, 03:56 AM

Inspired by a Kylie Minogue Album cover shot I got together with Rach and Mel and away we went.

Obviously a bit of post work in the first 2 shots, but not much. Created a 2nd layer, desaturated it and upped the contrast, then eraser at 50% to show the colour of Rach's hair and 100% eraser over the bright red of the gloves, her lips and eyes (Rach's eyes really are that colour).

The rest of the shots are pretty much as shot with just a resize and crop. High key look is as shot with Saturation and contrast bumped up in camera.

K100D and Sigma 28-80 Aspherical.
Hired a studio and used 2 strobes lighting the white paper backdrop, another strobe into a brolly for her face and one more strobe lighting her lower body.

All excellent captures.

The second one is definitely a favourite of mine.

Nice! I really like the lighting in these. Selective coloring of the eyes, lips, and glove is a nice effect. I wonder what the first 2 pics would look like without the blonde hair....

Wow awesome work.

Love your site also - (never even heard of a Vac Bed before)

I have always wanted to go down to one of the Camera Club nights in Canning Vale and learn studio stuff - (but I live in the Northern suburbs) I am on the mailing list though.
I always pictured the camera club in CV as full of canikon snobs with a million bucks worth of gear - obviously that is not the case. You have certainly shown it is the photographer not the gear in these shots.

When I was going there was another 2 or 3 Pentax folk and even a few Sony people. The majority of people there were/are Canon or Nikon users but no "gear snobs" of any sort that's for sure.

These shots are from hiring the Rockingham studio (London Photographic Studio), not as much gear as the Canningvale one, but the gear is newer and living in Waikiki it's only 5 minutes up the road from me.
