About 10-15 years ago the bell fell from the cupola. Fortunately it fell, at night when no one was present. I am on the opposite side of the river here. About one-year ago, an elderly man drove a truck over the cliff into the river just above a roller dam. It was almost impossible to conceive one could make it over the bluff through the trees. Two Rescued from Turkey River in Northeast Iowa | whotv.com Neither he, or his passenger, died, although he nearly died, up to his neck in water.
