Quebec city at night
Posted By: bdery, 10-03-2008, 11:42 AM

First post in this section, I figure it's much better than dpreview to get actual feedback.

Those were shot recently around the Old Town of Quebec city, at night. The city is extremely well light, a joy for photographers. Comments are welcomed.

For the record, I know that these look soft, somehow the web compression from Photobucket gives them that softness. I'll resize them myself as I usually do next time.

Parliament tower

Fountain in front of Parliament building

Tourny fountain

Another view (slightly overexposed, that was nitended but I'm not sure about the effect)

Lines and curves

fortifications

St-Louis gate (could be named "Now and then")

Gate detail

Dufferin terrace

Price building

Thanks, both of you, for looking. It seems like you both prefer different pics I appreciate your comments.

For the record, the tourny fountain is near to 7 meters tall, even if it can be hard to tell withouth anything close to it to compare it with.

Very nice series - during my only visit to Quebec City I fell in love with the place. Took some night shots, but I wish I'd thought to shoot St. Louis gate as you did.
Thanks for posting these.

I'm with Jer on this one. Quebec City, the old city, is one of my favourite spots in Canada. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for commenting. Sailor, I'm sure if I saw pics you shot while in the city, I would think "I wish I had thought of that" too

I do love my city, to me it's a wonderful place to live, and being a tourists city, we certainly try to make it beautiful. This year's 400th anniversary celebrations really helped...

I would have to agree with Jer, I too fell in love with that city, like no other on this continent. Actually, I fell in love with with all of Quebec EXCEPT Montreal (sorry Pat).

Wish I had my dslr instead of a digital Oly. Rue St. Jean by itself is an experience - I had a room on the 3rd floor of a rooming house/hostel.

Stood on that very wall for the St Jean Baptiste celebrations and walked through that gate several times during my stay there but never stoped at the bar from where the picture was taken.

The motto of the Quebec licence plate and Coat of Arms has it right...Je me souviens.

Thanks for the memories

We spent a week at a convention in Quebec City four years ago and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The food was great, people were fantastic and there were so many sights to see I may have to go back some day to see them all.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you roentarre and J. Scott. I'm glad you enjoyed the city.

JCSullivan, I agree that Quebec is different than all the other North American cities I've seen. Just for the record, you're refering to the St-Jean (or St-John) gate, with the cafe near it. My shot is of St-Louis gate, a little further along the fortifications, much nearer to the Plains of Abraham and the Parliament. The gates are quite similar, granted.

Holy chit batman, you're right. I got mixed-up and didn't realize that the tower shot was from the other side.

Either way, gate shots from enclosed cities are actually nice to look at.
Thanks for the correction.
